Dancing Days are Here Again

Hey mister DJ , put a record on...

The third Friday of every month, at 8.00pm Central European Time, you can hear me DJ on the Italian Radio station, ISNOW.

No, I haven't had a mid-life crisis and discovered a new passion. I've actually been DJ'ing since I was 19 years old in the early 90s in Kansas City.

Without knowing it, I was laying the ground for myself as an event producer. I secured venues, created the flyers, rented the gear, and hired the other DJ's to spin.

As far as my friends and I were concerned, no one was playing cool dance music where we lived. They were of course, but when you are 19 you know everything better! It was very DIY but we not only broke even, we made money we could invest in the next gigs. And our ever expanding record collections.

Some of the DJ's I worked with at the time ended up with music as a full-time career. Both Theo Parrish and Jenifa Mayanja started out DJ ing in Kansas City at our "Vibe Tribe" parties, so I would like to think we were on to something.

After moving to NYC in 1993 , I still DJ'd the occasional party and was a resident DJ at Brite Bar on 10th avenue. I would randomly take on a proper gig-including playing at SXSW for Pharrell at a party for his rock label Star Trak, Bette Midler's after party at Madison Square Garden and a few corporate gigs at NY's Irving Plaza and Hiro Ballroom.

I still love dance music, and here in Frankfurt I've been spinning a monthly Spin class (pre-Covid).
